 WHAT IS THE POLICY?

It is policy for all students at Direk Schools to wear school clothing. Students are asked to wear one of or a combination of the school colours as explained below.

The school colours are navy, red and white.  Clothing must be in solid colours only - no patterns, stripes, spots etc. except for checked school dresses.

Clothing items with visible brand names (e.g. Adidas) or slogans (e.g. “Just Do It” ) are not acceptable as school clothing.

The wide choice of acceptable clothing includes:

CLOTHING

·      red/white or navy/white checked dress.

·      navy skirt, shorts, bike pants, trousers, trackpants (with white or red trim is acceptable), or denim jeans.

·      navy, red or white t-shirt, polo shirt, or shirt

·      navy, red or white windcheater, skivvy,  jacket, cardigan or jumper.

FOOTWEAR

Shoes or sandals suitable for energetic activity i.e. flat, sturdy and non-slip.

HATS

As protection against UV rays a navy brimmed or legionnaire hat is part of school wear policy whenever students are outdoors. Caps or visors are not sun safe, therefore are not acceptable.

SCHOOL LOGOS

School logos are available but are optional. They can be attached over other small designer logos.

JEWELLERY AND ATTACHMENTS

In the interest of safety for all involved the wearing of earrings, necklaces, rings, hair ornaments, bracelets and chains are NOT allowed.  Small sleepers or studs are permitted.

WHY HAVE A SCHOOL WEAR POLICY?

Parent surveys have continuously shown that a vast majority of parents want their children to wear school clothing and for their school to help them by having a general rule concerning this.

Your Governing Council supports the wishes of this community to have a school wear policy at this school.

Our aim is to:

·      Ensure the safety of children by having them easily identifiable and appropriately covered at all times.

·      Promote pride and unity in our school.

·      Reduce peer pressure and pressure on parents to provide extra ‘label fad’ clothing.

·      Enhance our public image.

·      Prepare students for transition to secondary school.

 IS THE POLICY COMPULSORY?

Yes.  Direk School’s Governing Council has the power to introduce and enforce a school wear policy under Education Regulation 189a.  The School first introduced a school wear policy in 1995.  Therefore, all students must dress in school wear unless exemption has been sought and is approved by the Principal in writing.  The grounds on which parents may seek exemption are:

 1.  Religion or culture.

2.  New students (time to buy clothing).

3.  Medical grounds

PROCEDURES TO HELP ENSURE THE POLICY IS FOLLOWED.

 We will :

 ·      Provide inexpensive school clothing for sale.

·      Provide information on shops that have the clothing.

·      Provide easy payment schemes if needed.

·      Provide a school hat with initial enrolment

·      Contact you and work through any issues if your child is not in school clothing.

·      Provide good second-hand clothing for sale.

·      Give your child a written exemption if appropriate.

·      Support your efforts to have your child dressed appropriately.
