SPANISH

Over 300 million people speak Spanish throughout the world.  Today the three most widely spoken world languages are English, Chinese and Spanish.  Spanish is spoken in the USA by more than 20% of the population.

Spanish is one of the official languages used at International Conferences, The United Nations and the European Community.  It is the official language of 22 countries.  By the year 2000, Spanish was the second most widely spoken language in the world.

In 2005 Direk Schools chose Spanish as the focus language for students in years 3-7.  Classes come to Senorita Wright in room 13 Monday through to Wednesday for a 50 minute lesson each week.  Through the study of languages, learners gain knowledge and skills that enable them to communicate and to understand other languages and cultures.

Learning a language is about understanding oneself and one's interaction with others.  Current research into brain development and associated theories indicate that learning a language develops unique higher order thinking, knowledge and communication skills and increases students' capacities to develop a range of multiple intelligences.
